We use regular milk to make our frozen hot chocolate, but you can absolutely start with chocolate milk to boost the chocolaty flavor. Feel free to experiment with chocolate-flavored dairy-free milk alternatives too.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk, divided
  • 5 ounces semisweet chocolate or chocolate of your choice, roughly chopped
  • 4-1/2 teaspoons baking cocoa
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 4 cups ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • optional: miniature marshmallows, chocolate sauce, whipped cream or sprinkles

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup milk, chocolate, cocoa and confectioners' sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat, until chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth (do not boil), about 3 minutes.
  2. Transfer chocolate mixture to a blender. Add ice, vanilla and remaining 1 cup milk; cover and blend until smooth. Pour into glass. Garnish with toppings as desired.
