Serve this sweet, spiced pear crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. A handful of chopped spiced nuts, a drizzle of maple syrup or a homemade vanilla sauce would also pair nicely. (See what I did there?)

Ingredients

  • 8 medium ripe pears, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • whipped cream, optional

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Toss pears with orange juice; place in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Combine the sugar, cinnamon, allspice and ginger; sprinkle over pears.
  2. For topping, in a small bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar and baking powder; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over pears.
  3. Bake until topping is golden brown and fruit is tender, 35-40 minutes. Serve warm. If desired, garnish with whipped cream.
